Day 5 - September 14, 2026

Explore their weaving workshops, where brightly colored cloth is still crafted on traditional looms, and taste local dishes made from the “false banana” plant, a staple in their

cuisine.

This morning, set off on a long but rewarding drive deeper into the Omo Valley, eventually reaching Turmi, the cultural heartland of the Hamer people. Along the way, the scenery shifts to vast savannahs dotted with traditional villages.

The Hamer are among the most renowned tribes of the Omo, known for their intricate hairstyles coated in ochre, colorful beadwork, and body ornaments. Depending on the season and timing, you may witness the Evangadi dance, performed by young men and women, or even a bull-jumping ceremony, an important rite of passage for Hamer men. Day 7 - September 16, 2026

Begin the day with a drive to Omorate, a settlement on the banks of the Omo River. Cross the river in a traditional dugout canoe to meet the Dassanech tribe. The Dassanech

live in a harsh environment, relying on cattle, fishing, and seasonal farming, and they are known for their resilience and adaptability.

After your visit, continue by road to Jinka, the administrative center of the South Omo Zone. In the afternoon, journey into Mago National Park to meet the Mursi people. Famous worldwide for the large clay lip plates worn by women and distinctive scarification practices, the Mursi maintain some of the Omo Valley’s most striking and recognizable cultural traditions. Spending time in their village offers a glimpse into a lifestyle that has endured for centuries despite

modern pressures.

Tonight we will sleep overnight in Jinka.

Day 8 - September 17, 2026

On your final morning, visit the Aari people, who inhabit the fertile highlands around Jinka. Unlike some of the nomadic groups of the valley, the Aari are farmers and artisans, known for cultivating crops such as coffee and cereals as well as for their pottery and blacksmithing. Walking through their villages reveals the rhythm of agrarian

life and the importance of craftsmanship in their community.

After lunch, transfer to Jinka airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, connect to your onward international flight or extend your stay in the capital. This marks the end of your South

Omo journey, leaving you with lasting impressions of Ethiopia’s extraordinary cultural
